James F. Bentley
A mass of Christian burial was held Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 10:00AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 1317 Eggert Rd. (corner of Main St.), Amherst, NY, for James F. Bentley, 81. He died April 29, 2009 after a brief illness.

Mr. Bentley born and raised in Buffalo, NY, was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and held a degree in BSME from the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Engineering.
He served in the Navy during WWII from 1944-1946, Pacific Theatre, Petty Officer 3rd Class; recalled during the Korean conflict with the Atlantic Reserve Fleet out of Bayonne, NJ.
He was the Owner and Founder of J.F. Bentley Co., Inc. of Williamsville, NY., in which he was still active as President. His daughter Mary has been running the business, with him along side as mentor and consultant.
He co-authored two articles for Hydraulics and Pneumatics magazine, and was elected president of the Niagara Frontier Fluid Power Society, Chapter 29 1966/67. Mr. Bentley was recognized by “Who’s Who in the East” 1978/79 edition and again in 1985 by St. Joseph Collegiate Institute’s National Honor Society as “Outstanding member of the class of 1944”, with honorary membership in the society.
Mr. Bentley, along with his wife, was a member of Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi. As a lector and Eucharistic minister at his church, he frequently sang at church services. He was well known for his singing in restaurants and lounges around Buffalo as well as Florida.
His family was his most valued asset, as he was a devoted husband and caring father. He is survived by his wife Shirley (Service), his daughter Mary (Schlager) of Williamsville, NY and a son James, Jr. of Williamsville, NY. Three grandchildren, US ARMY SPC James T. Canfield; currently stationed in Fort Drum, NY. Kariann Ray of Erie, PA; Patrick and Shanon Bentley; and two great grandchildren; Russell and Ryland Ray. He is also survived by three sisters, Josephine Fillmore of Michigan, Jeanne Bentley and Joyce Hirsch both of Amherst, NY.
